Cyprus and Israel hand in hand.
Cyprus and Israel have joint forces.
There is a natural-gas field beneath the Mediterranian sea between Cyprus and Israel
The Israelian minister of defense, Moshe Yaalon, and his contra part in Cyprus, Fotis Fotiou, have met more than once to make agreements about security cooperation between the two countries.
This gas-field is important to these countries, Cyprus needs it for economical
reasons, and Israel needs the energy.
Israel imports almost all of its energy, and the country is an "energy-island" - there are no friendly neigbours to help supply energy.
This is why Israel wants as much natural gas as possible for domestic use - Israel has to look forward.
Both from an strategy point of view, and for every day needs - Israel really do need that gas-field.
Much of the energy need of Israel may be covered for the next 25-35 years by natural gas from Mediterranian gas-fields.
You can be curtain that both countries will defend this gas-field with whatever force needed, energy security is a big issue here.
And of course how to exploit the gasfield together.
Cyprus is a part of the EU, and quite dependent of economical assistance from Bryssels, at least for the time being.
Israel is not to happy about EU, since EU have strong opinions on some internal politics of Israel.
Cyprus also have a good relation to Russia, and since Russia needs the Limassol harbor they are likely to help out if needed.
